1842February 23Crown prince Maximilian of Bavaria becomes engaged to princess Marie of Prussia.
 October 12Wedding of Maximilian and Marie.
1845August 25Ludwig is born in Nymphenburg.
 August 26Ludwig is baptized.
 November 15Ludwig receives the title "heir apparent".
1848March 20Ludwig I. abdicates the throne. Crown Prince Max becomes king, Ludwig becomes crown prince.
 April 27Prince Otto is born.
1851 Ludwig accompanies his parents to Bayreuth.
1855 The royal family visits Nuernberg.
1861June 16 Ludwig hears his first Wagner opera, "Lohengrin".
1863Mid-August Meeting between crown prince Ludwig and Bismarck in Nymphenburg.
 December 15King Maximilian, who is ill, returns from Italy upon the pleas of his people.

 September 28Duchess Sophie becomes engaged to the Duke of Alencon. Ludwig accompanies the tsaritsa, empress Marie, on her travels; plans are made for the construction of Linderhof and Neuschwanstein castles, construction of Linderhof begins.
1869 Provinicial votes result in a heavy majority vote for the Ultramontanan party.
 September 22Premiere of "Rheingold". Construction of Neuschwanstein castle begins.

 May 22 Foundation stone is laid for festival house in Bayreuth.

1873 Ludwig purchases the Herreninsel in Chiemsee.
1874 Ludwig attends the Fronleichnam procession for the last time.
 July 13Kaiser Wilhelm visits Munich.
 August 20Ludwig travels to Paris, visits Verseille and Trianon.
 October 12Queen Marie joins the Roman Catholic Church in Waltenhofen.The king visits the Octoberfest for the last time.
1875August 22Ludwig reviews troops of the Munich garrison.
 August 24Travel to Reims.
The isolation of the mentally ill prince Otto in Fuerstenried.
1876Febr. 10Ludwig attends court dinner for the last time.
 May 12Eisenhart is dismissed under adverse circumstances. Friedrich von Ziegler takes his place as cabinet chief.

Ludwig in Bayreuth in Wagner's festival theater, he attends the "Ring des Nibelungen". Ludwig supports his ministers, especially Lutz, opposite the provincial diet majority. Ludwig's despondency and unsociable behavior becomes more noticeable.
1877October 17Ludwig von Buerkel joins the court secretariat.
1878 Linderhof castle is basically completed. Construction on Herrenchiemsee castle begins.
1879 Ziegler resigns; Alexander Schneider becomes cabinet
1880 Lutz becomes minister president. Ziegler becomes cabinet chief.
 September 2 Joseph Kainz guest performs in Munich.
 Nov. 12Wagner directs the "Parsifal" overture for Ludwig.
1881April 30Kainz performs as Didier in a seperate performance for Ludwig.
 June 3-15 Kainz stays with Ludwig at Linderhof

1883January 11Ziegler resigns again, Schneider is called back in his place.
 Febr. 13Richard Wagner dies in Venice. Kainz leaves Munich. Ludwig writes his famous letter to Lutz. Count Duerckheim becomes the king's aid-de-camp.
1884 Court secretary von Buerkel resigns. He is followed by police commissioner Pfister. The king's financial situation become complicated and more and more hopeless.
1886 Everything collapses. Plea for help to Bismarck is unanswered. The chamber is to be dissolved if Ludwig's demands for credit are not met.
 June 2Ludwig moves to Neuschwanstein. A decision is made in favor of a regency.
 June 9The state commission leaves for Neuschwanstein.
 June 10 The regency is proclaimed.
 June 11Arrival of psychiatrists in Neuschwanstein
 June 12The king is transported to Berg
 June 13Ludwig dies in lake Starnberg, along with his physician Dr. Gudden
 June 15The king's remains arrive in Munich
 June 17The "funeral court" in the provincial diet.
 June 19Ludwig is laid to rest in the St. Michaels court church in Munich.
